Kelvin Beachum – Nominee for Humanitarian of the Year

Kelvin Beachum – Nominee for Humanitarian of the Year

By Erik Erlendsson

Faith and family showed Kelvin Beachum the importance of community service and giving back.

The offensive tackle for the New York Jets uses his status to cast that net across a large section of charitable endeavors.

The Beachum Charitable Fund helps raise funds that go to a myriad of different causes, with introducing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) to minority and disadvantage students near the top of that list focusing on STEM careers, particularly robotics, computer programming, automotive and aviation. In 2016 he launched Kelvin Konnects, a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) program designed to increase minority access to STEAM careers in the hopes of bridging the gap of access and opportunity for young African American men.

Beachum also works closely with Feeding America and Bread for the World organizations looking to end childhood hunger.

But Beachum extends his reach beyond those two key areas, partaking in disaster relief and humanitarian efforts, hosting community food distributions across the country partnered with World Vision while sponsoring various teacher and student school supply distributions in Texas.

He sits on the Entertainment Council for Feeding America as well as the Executive Boards for the Simmons School of Education and Human Development as well as the Lyle School of Engineering at SMU. Beachum serves as a union rep for the NFLPA and is a member of the NFLPA Brand Ambassador Program.

A four-year starter at Southern Methodist University, Beachum graduated in four years with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and a Master’s degree in liberal studies, providing the commencement speech at his graduation a month after being selected in the seventh round of the NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played for three years. Beachum spent the 2016 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the New York Jets as a free agent in 2017.
